What Slabstead is, and how a request is handled
Two things happen on this site. We explain uneven concrete in plain language so you can make a decision, and where we have local coverage we hand your project to one independent contractor who can actually look at it. That is the whole business.
You describe the project
The request form asks where the property is, which slab is affected, what you have noticed, and how you would like to be contacted. It takes a couple of minutes, costs nothing, and creates no obligation.
We review it before anyone calls you
We confirm the basics and check two things: whether this is genuinely a concrete-leveling question, and whether we have contractor coverage where the property is. If your description points at a foundation, structural, plumbing, or drainage problem rather than flatwork settlement, we flag it for manual review and tell you so - read leveling versus replacement for why that distinction matters.
An independent local contractor takes it
Where we have coverage, your request goes to an independent local concrete-leveling contractor who contacts you directly. See contractor standards for what we check first.
They inspect and quote; you decide
Leveling cannot be honestly quoted from a photo. The contractor visits, probes what is under the slab, checks drainage, and gives you a real price and method recommendation - or tells you the slab needs replacing. Scope, method, price, warranty, and scheduling are between you and them, and you are under no obligation to proceed.
What we are not
Slabstead is not a concrete contractor. We do not perform, supervise, or warrant repair work, we do not set prices, and we do not employ the contractors we introduce you to. We also do not diagnose structural conditions over the internet - nobody honestly can. Where symptoms suggest foundation movement, the right next step is an in-person assessment by a structural professional, and we will say that rather than route the project as a slab lift.
How we make money
Contractors pay us for introductions to homeowners who genuinely need the work. Homeowners are never charged. That model only survives if the projects we pass along are real and appropriate, which is why we review requests instead of forwarding everything that arrives, and why we would rather tell you we cannot help than send your details somewhere useless.
Why one contractor, not five
We introduce your project to a single contractor rather than selling it to a list. A contractor who knows a request is theirs answers faster and arrives prepared, and you get one respectful conversation instead of a week of competing calls. It also means we cannot promise you a bidding war - if comparing several quotes is what you want, get additional ones yourself, and that is a perfectly sensible thing to do.
Where we operate
We are expanding metro by metro and only list a market once it is genuinely live. Today that is 3 metros: Kansas City metropolitan area, St. Louis metropolitan area, Indianapolis metropolitan area. If your property is elsewhere, send the project anyway and we will tell you honestly whether we can help.
Who we are: Slabstead is a free homeowner information and contractor-matching service. We are not a concrete contractor and we do not perform, supervise, or warrant repair work. We help you understand what is happening to your concrete and connect you with an independent local contractor who inspects the site in person. That contractor determines the scope, method, price, warranty, and availability of any work. Submitting a request does not guarantee that a contractor is available, and you are never charged by Slabstead for requesting help.
